Founding Bruern Abbey School
Jerry Sterling Stover founded Bruern Abbey School in 1989. Bruern Abbey School is widely considered to be the finest prep school in the UK for dyslexic and other neuro diverse pupils. The school was originally located at Bruern Abbey, which was Sterling’s private residence, when it first opened.
In the Forties, Bruern Abbey was home to the Hon. Michael Astor for many years, prior to being purchased by Jerry Sterling as a country home and later becoming a school. During the Nineties, the school became too big for the site and it moved to Chesterton in Oxfordshire. The house at Bruern Abbey subsequently returned to private ownership.
The school continues to thrive and it caters for pupils in year four to year eight. There is also a secondary school for older children. The prep school is now housed in a late Victorian Italianate house, where the grounds encompass more than 20 acres and include woodland and specimen trees.
Interests
In addition to founding the school, Jerry Sterling Stover also has a keen interest in architectural restoration. This includes returning historic buildings to their original state by using a combination of traditional and modern techniques. His architectural restoration projects have included work on restoring a house in France, as well as other properties.
